[ those ones he takes -- and doesn't flinch even as they pierce him. it's nice to be able to do that, his half-demon strength able to far more easily keep up the pace in the context of a space like this, and there's a sharp laugh as he abruptly pulls the sword back enough to try to shove forward in a thrust with it into Vergil's gut. ]

[Does he really care if he's stabbed? Maybe he just wants to get Dante more -- it's stupid to step into it just so he can counter, but he's so petty right now, he just can't help it. He takes the stab, only to lunge forward too, Yamato angled from below.]

How badly do you want to kill me? Willing to destroy yourself too?

Not really -- wantin' to kill you.

[ he takes that, too -- along with the other swords piercing him from before Yamato sinks into him, as smoothly cutting flush as it does everything else, grunting as he tries to wrench Rebellion back out of him. ]

Might just happen!

[He scoffs, even through clenched teeth, twisting the blade.]

Oh, come on, you attack me immediately on sight and you're going to say you don't want me dead? I saw Nero's memory too -

[Taking the end of the sheathe to push off Dante for momentum, he lands back on his feet a short distance away, swiping the sword through the air to clean it.]

- you were trying to kill me!

[ he back-steps himself, nimble despite the size of his sword, taking a moment to hold the gaping Yamato wound -- with a little rough laugh ]

Yeah, well, even if I killed you here -- not like it would stick, right? In the dream or out.

Hardly the point, Dante. What's the point in fighting you if you don't even care.

[He digs his heels into the ground, leaning backward into his right leg, with his sword sheathed but his hand on the hilt.]

If I didn't care why would I bother showin' up?

[ he takes another step back, swapping out his sword for a moment in favor of his guns, stepping to the side while Vergil prepares that. ]

[How dare you sidestep his broadcasted charge up moves just hold still. There it goes, into nothing - but it chases him to the side in a semicircle]

I don't know, do tell. Because you want to mock me?

[ he's a master tactician! he swivels to face him, holstering his guns to whip out his sword again ]

That is a pretty good reason.

[Wow! WOW!! What a rude asshole.]

So you just want to make sure I know I'm inferior.

[He teleports to Dante, already midswing when he appears.]

[ there's a roll just under that -- literally cutting a few hairs on his way down -- but he's quick to rise up from that, with another swing at him ]

[He turns on his heel, turning the sword's momentum into something to block his body, even at the expense of his arm.]

[ that has their swords clashing as he moves to respond, and he's keeping his sword braced between them ]

What d'you want me to say? That this is allll 'cause I think I'm better than you?

[Too angry to be as calm and cool as usual, he pushes back against it with all his weight.]

If that's what you think, then yes. It sure seems that way.

[ he skids back on his heels -- and shoves forward, with a little grunt, trying to unsettle Vergil's weight ]

Well -- you got that wrong.

Then what? Are you ever actually going to tell me anything?

[It pushes him off balance, sliding back. He catches himself in a wide stance, one hand to the ground, face in the lake. He doesn't bother doing anything but shaking it out, just enough to see, because he has to rush back in immediately.]

[ when he rushes in -- he aims the sword in a thrust at the incoming Vergil-missile, aiming to either have him run into at least or have to dodge at an awkward angle ]

Ask'n -- I'll answer!

[He has to side-step at the last moment, leaning to one side to avoid it, but following through with another swing by Dante's feet.]

What the hell am I doing now if not asking!

[ he half-takes that one, skidding back as the sword slices at his leg ]

Well --

I don't want you dead. Is that what you wanted t'hear?

So you just wouldn't care. That's almost worse.

[He points an accusatory Yamato at him.]

You're puttin' words in my goddamn mouth.

[ there's an accusatory Rebellion point back at him! -- but he can't say outright that he cares. who would do that! ]

[They're the same and it's terrible. He scowls.]

You could at least give me enough respect to hate me back!

How 'bout you do something worth it? Huh?

[ which isn't something he should be daring Vergil into but he has a serious case of shitting directly out of his mouth disease, it's terminal ]

[What an asshole! The pure rage with which he wants to destroy Dante basically doubles thanks to that. Good work.]

Haven't I done enough by now?!

[He shouts, and rushes in again, already tired of waiting for Dante to make the next move.]

You could put -- a little more effort into it!

[ of Dante's positive qualities, de-escalating situations is not one of them

he rolls back and to the side again as Vergil shoots for him, once again whipping out his pistols to take shots as he approaches, try to get him off his guard ]
